Control vs Its Hard To Find a Friend

You probably would've guessed what this entry would be about by the title, if you are a Pedro the Lion fan. Pedro has been one of my favorite bands for a while now, as well as a huge influence on my songwriting. David Bazan, front man and mastermind behind Pedro, is so blatantly honest when it comes to writing lyrics. His songs have such deep meanings hidden within them, and once you figure them out, it makes the song so much better.

Now to the title of the entry. These are both titles to 2 of Pedro's albums. When I first started listening to PLT, I was hooked on Its Hard To Find a Friend because it had so many good songs on it. I could sit and listen through the whole thing and feel as if I was inside Bazan's head and actually experince what he was writing about. Then I started listening to Control. This is a more driving album, which I enjoy. "Rapture," the 2nd song on Control is about a man cheating on his wife. The lyrics in this song are so intense, and raw.

"This is how we mulitply, pity that its not my wife. The friction and skin, the trembling sigh..." this is the opening line to "Rapture." I love how in this song Bazan doesnt give a damn about what people think and he just writes whats on his mind no matter how sensitive the subject.

If you are a Pedro the Lion fan, could you give me your opinion on this "album war."

  1. jason, first of all, thank you for writing an entry about pedro the lion. i have been a lover of david bazan for a very very long time.

i think my favorite album of the two is "control". perhaps it is because it reminds me of warm summers...i don't know.

it is always such a pleasure finding out that someone has the same music taste as yourself.

  2. Mmmmm. I'm not so familiar with Pedro, but I know that Sam Willsey put them on while we were in his car one time, and he started going on and on about their greatness. And my friend Joel said he's the best band he's ever seen in concert.

And now youze got me all interested! What! I'm glad they're one of your favorite bands, Jason. Ten points. And a gold star.
